Can Keto Diet Be a Cause Of High Cholesterol?

I’m really torn. I’ve been eating the keto way from the past six months, and I’ve lost 35 lbs. My doctor just called with routine lab results, and my cholesterol is worse than it was six months ago, and liver enzymes up. They want me to stop eating this way. Anyone else had this experience?

I've been keto for over a year, and I am no longer pre-diabetic, my labs are finally normal. I've lost 50 pounds. But remember, high fat does not mean too much fat, just enough to satisfy you. I see people on this site really going overboard on the fat. Be careful.

You need to get a break down of your numbers and see what is high and what is low. Cholesterol is of significant importance to the body, and most studies show that just as many people with a cholesterol count at acceptable levels develop heart disease as those with a total high cholesterol number. You also need to find out what your triglyceride level is and your HDL-Cholesterol.

Your liver is working to detox you. That said, how high are they? When my liver enzymes were elevated several years ago, I quit eating scavenger foods, and they went down. So now I don't eat pork, seafood, catfish.

I think it would be beneficial to stay on a diet and avoid pork and shellfish. I think you would see a decrease.

I started the same time also & was told by my doctor that he would check levels in 6 months…I feel great & insulin levels are not out of wack anymore, but anything my doctor tells me I will also do further research on it anyway..
